I’m currently writing chapter 36, which just so happens to be the start of The Jewel Jubilee, a celebration for Aledonia’s national symbol of Mir Örnei - or, The Jewel Tree. It occurs every ten years. It’s kind of a big deal.
It just so happens that Nessa’s visit there falls during this celebration. (And she’s doing a major face-palm right now because she hates galas and stuff like this).
The Jewel Tree is a very iconic ancient tree, the only one of its kind. So, I’m finally getting to write its importance to the Elvish culture, and why this Jubilee is a very special one.

Bambi by Felix Salten
The writing style of this classic is beyond beautiful. It is nostalgic and dreamy, poetic in some paragraphs, and, interestingly, very deep.
I expected Bambi to go behind the scenes of the movie I grew up with and paint a picture of “what really happened”. I was expecting the full story of Bambi’s mother, the darker, truer, side of his relationship with her and the deeper meaning to his life. Surprisingly, the book has little to do with Bambi’s mother, and more surprisingly, little to do with Bambi himself becoming the Great Prince of the Forest at all.
This book does tell a deep, dark side of things, but more so about how fragile life is, and how all living things are on a circle - from birth to death, and the fears and excitements in between, all to be passed onto the next generation that will rise to take your place. And it is all told through the eyes of a deer.
Do not expect Thumper, or Flower, or much of the movie-version of Faline for that matter. Take this book in for what it is and enjoy the lesson it teaches.

“Does Your MC Have a Favorite Article of Clothing/Possession?”
I tend to channel my characters through the way I dress or the way I do makeup.
When I feel I need to channel my inner Hypatia, my eyes darken and I’m drawn to my dark green, black, purple clothing. This is where my Doc Martens come out.
Liasar, I’ll tend to sport my crystal necklaces and throw some skinny braids in my hair.
Drystan tho, is difficult. Becuase I don’t want to channel him per say. I just want his things lol.
There are a few possessions that he comes to have in A Lovelorn Scar. (They are significant things, I didn’t just give him these things for no apparent reason lol) One, is a magical sea grass bracelet. The other is a scarf.
And it wasn’t until after I wrote the scarf scene that an obsession came over me and I was like.... I need to have it, I need to have his scarf.
Although this is way, way, longer and more fashionable than the way I imagine his, this is it. The chunky knit lapis blue yarn. The feel and the texture of it. It’s a daydream come true. I’m very sad tho that it must be put away for the season.
Now I need to find that bracelet...
